Students make friends for life at The Hillside School and Learning Center. Social interaction is not only encouraged, but a focus of our program. We pay attention to how well our students interact with their peers and other classmates, and we take the whole student into account when developing educational solutions as well as recreational activities.
Between classes, students are free to shoot basketball hoops, play Ping-Pong, grab snacks or drinks, eat lunch and gather at one of two outdoor student areas on the campus. Additionally, there is a Senior High Lounge where our older students can relax, chat or study when time in their schedule permits. The Snack Shack offers water, snacks and fruit for a nominal charge.
School Social Events
The Hillside School presents a wealth of school-related social activities for students, and occasionally, their parents as well. There are quarterly Pizza Lunches and monthly Birthday Donut Days where students gather together. Our annual Thanksgiving Feast encourages entire families to meet each other on campus and celebrate the season. Additionally, there are on-campus celebrations at Halloween and throughout the holiday season.
After School Activities
Once a month, the Hillside School invites students to exciting and fun after-school activities–responding to the requests of our students. These outings give students a chance to cut loose and grow closer to each other in a recreational setting. The cost of these activities averages between $12 and $25 per student. Parent volunteers and PTO members drive the students to each event. After School Activities have included: Theater, Go-Carts, Paintball
Because we are a small school and place value on our responsiveness to student needs, we’ll happily arrange for events that our students request. In 2013, we held a Spring Prom – as requested – it was a tremendous success and our students danced and socialized wearing their finest “threads.”
